When you travel to a different state or a different country, one of the best ways to get to know the real flavor of the land is to get to know the people as well as their food. International cuisine has so much to offer and one of the places we think of first when we think of international food is the country of France. You will need a passport for any international travel but getting one has been made unbelievably easy by accessing an online passport agency.
These online sites offer more than basic passport services. They can get you a 24 hour United States passport renewal, add more pages to your passport, or just get your first one.
When you consider international dining, you need to start at the beginning and that means breakfast. Here in the United States, we think of waffles, eggs, bacon and hash browns. The French enjoy a lighter version of breakfast consisting of a breakfast pastry and coffee. There are, however, a variety of pastries to consider from the sweetest to those on more of a savory level. The coffee will start you day with flavor and aroma.
There are some delicacies that a visit to France is not complete without. One of these dishes is a croissant. While you probably have had a croissant somewhere in America, the making of croissants in France is an art form and you definitely want to try them in their homeland.
Of course, if you're feeling adventurous, there are more unique items you can try. Escargots, or snails, are one of these dishes. Cooked in a delicious butter sauce, escargots are a delicacy closely tied to the French. Special tools are required to eat this meal, as the snails are usually served still in their shells. Another equally unique meal is steak tartare. Steak tartare is essentially rare, finely chopped beef. It's seasoned and marinated, as well as "cooked" in the alcohol used in the recipe.
One of the most well known signatures of French dishes is Croque Monsieur or Croque Madame. This dish is composed of a sandwich that is akin to a grilled cheese. In the middle of two slices of bread lies ham, while the cheese is melted on the outside. The Madame version of this dish includes an egg cooked sunny-side-up placed on top.
If you are one who isn't too adventurous when it comes to food, steak frites might be just the dish for you. While this is a well known French dish, it is actually just steak and, of course, French fries. Eating this, you will certainly feel right at home. It is certainly no surprise that you will find French onion soup but the daring diner might want to try moules and huitres also known as mussels and oysters. A famous French dish made with duck is Confit de Carard and for the lighter side, a crepe, falafel or gallette will certainly fit the bill.
We now come to the best part, desert. When you think of desert in France, you think of the French macaron. This is a delightful desert consisting of two small cookies with icing in the middle. This colorful desert as well as the more familiar ice cream, chocolate or pastry will top of any French dining experience.
