Diseases in humans are defined as the harmful changes that interfere with the normal structure, appearance and/or functions of the body as a whole or any of the parts of the body. Diseases may be caused by many different situations or associated problems. Most common of these problems is causes like the conditions in economy, natural disasters and also wars. Disease impact can have far greater and drastic effects to the general population that any well-known calamity, natural or man-made.
If a viral outbreak was to erupt in a certain geographical area, it would spread rapidly leaving behind only a destructive aftermath. This is so because a virus has the ability to replicate as it mutates from one strain to another very rapidly. In 1918, there was an outbreak of the influenza virus and it killed people between 20 million to 50 million in the whole world. Few months later over 500,000 people died in America due to the results of the Spanish flu.
Disease causes are broad and can be classified into two large groups. The groups are the noninfectious diseases and the infectious diseases. The noninfectious diseases are the type of diseases that are not communicable. This means they cannot be passed from an individual to another because of a lack of an infectious agent that is not yet established. The infectious diseases are as a result of organisms that are microscopic invading the body.
The common cold is a good example where the disease is acute and can come instantly and go on for numerous weeks. Arthritis, on the other hand, is an ailment that is chronic which means the condition is able to last for a couple of months to several years in a recurrent form. The body has been known to exude certain effects that are characteristic and can be identified. These effects, which may be rashes, nausea, pain, fatigue, dizziness, inflammation and fever among others, are called the signs and symptoms.
These symptoms are what the professionals like physicians and health-care officials make an informed judgment of what an individual is suffering from. Then again, the symptoms may at other times indicate some possible disorders. If this is so, further medical tests are carried out like several blood tests and X-rays to be sure of the exact problem. The treatment that people undergo will establish the course the disease will take in the long run, either negatively or positively.
