These days, there has been some confusion going on with regards to craft shows. A lot of people apparently come to these events expecting nothing more than to see a glorified version of a flea market. I've had experiences wherein the visitors tried to get me to lower the prices on my handcrafted items. To anyone who goes to craft shows, I'll just remind you that this practice is not well received.
Let me explain the fundamental difference between a flea market booth and the ones you will see in a craft show. In a flea market, people simply set up their booths by filling it up with trinkets that they got on wholesale. they have no personal attachment whatsoever to their wares, and they are willing to haggle for the price, since all they're really after is making some profit out of mundane objects.
Besides, chances are great that even the crafts you'd see in a flea market are mass-produced in a factory. Very little actual handcrafting is involved, and the piece ends up without having a soul. It may look good, but it is just bland and cannot add life to your home.
A craft show in contrast is filled with items that have been meticulously made by artistic hands that scrutinize every piece and makes sure that it fits the overall feel of the craft. With a handcrafted piece, the muse has inspired the artisan and this makes the craft much more alive.
And the person who is presenting the crafts at the booth at a craft show will most likely be the same person who spent time and effort making it. Now, if you try to beat down the price, it will be like reducing the value of his or her artistry, as well as cheapening the efforts of that person's who has given his very soul to the item.
