How To Stop My Dog's Skin Rash

My German shepherd seems to have gotten a skin rash over the weekend. Her rash started off as red bumps and I knew it was irritating her because she kept scratching it, which made it worse. Not only was my dog scratching the rash, but she started biting at it. I almost thought it was an infestation of fleas, because when a dog gets fleas they tend to bite at them furiously. I looked at the area more closely and knew it was not fleas, but a simple rash. I have no idea how she got the rash or when it first started, so I started researching what to do if your dog gets a skin rash.
Most skin rashes start quickly, itch and can be red and bumpy. If the area affected is also swollen, this is just another sign that your dog has a skin rash. There are many different causes for dog rashes such as an allergy to food, environmental allergy or from parasites like fleas, dog ticks, dog worms and lice. Another cause for dog rashes could be from any medication your dog might be taking. If you are giving your dog any kind of medication and a skin rash appears, you will want to call your vet as soon as possible.
I found out that there are many different treatments for a dog skin rash. With my dog I did not want to put any kind of strong medication on the skin and would prefer to find something more natural. So this is what I found:
- Aloe Vera cream or gel is a great natural healer of skin. By putting some on the affected area of your dog, you might see a marked change quite quickly as the rash reacts to the Aloe.
- Baking soda mixed with water creates a paste that helps sooth the skin rash. Just like with bee stings, you use baking soda to help heal the area that might have been poisoned.
- Coconut oil helps with severe dry skin, which might be the root cause of your dogs skin rash. Coconut oil will need to be used multiple times to get the best affect from the oil.
- Apple cider vinegar is great for treating areas that might have a fungus or yeast infection.
I used the aloe Vera cream on my dog and she got better within the day. I think she might have brushed up against some kind of plant that didn't sit well with her skin. As with any kind of skin rash, be sure you treat it quickly and if it does not go away after the first day, you might want to take your dog into your local Vet.
