Never Buy Bulldog Puppies From Importers
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
It is never a good idea to buy an expensive puppy like an English bulldog puppy from an importer. Generally what happens in such cases is that the one importing the puppy is actually reselling it. Either she has never seen the puppy or if she has, she has most certainly not known its parents or grandparents. It is really rare that the importer has taken the trouble to personally check on the lineages of the puppies she sells. Even that may well have been done a few years back and thus she is mostly in dark when it comes to the current health of the parents of the puppies on sale.
So why are these importers doing this? Money. It can be boiled down to one simple word. Money! And this is with a capital M! Don't let the fancy website or beautiful pictures fool you. These are the only tools they have. Beautiful pictures and money to burn on a state of the art website. But what they don't have is first hand experience with the parents and grandparents of the English Bulldogs for sale they are advertising. When you are looking for an English bulldog puppy for sale, and a cute wrinkly puppy at that, you can't afford to buy a cheap import puppy that is a near total unknown.
As per the OFA website there are less than 152 English Bulldogs whose hips have had X rays submitted for certification. You can verify this by going to the offa.org and then selecting the bulldog breed and then for the reports selection choosing hips. Since it is common for bulldogs to have breathing and hip problems, you will save much time and grief when you buy from a reputable broker. If you buy from a broker who imports puppies of unknown origin that is exactly what you are getting. Puppies of unknown origin.
To make matters worse the importers will often pass their puppies off as the cream of the crop with professional pictures and high dollar prices. These importers are good at marketing their wares. They will even make you sign an agreement making sure you will take care of the puppies according to certain terms and conditions they dictate. They will vet you to make sure you are a good enough home in their opinion. All of this makes you feel like you are having to prove you are qualified to even buy one of their puppies.... And when it comes down to it, they are reselling puppies of unverified origin. These importers rarely know the health of the parents and grandparents to these puppies. It is a big marketing scam for many of these importers.
With all this in mind, please note there is, on occasional that rare breeder or person who has carefully imported an entire litter. They will have purchased the puppy litter from a very reputable show breeder. This is done so they can thoughtfully choose the puppy they want for themselves, in turn they will then sell any remaining puppies of that litter, keeping only the one they have picked. For the best result when purchasing a puppy, use extreme caution when dealing with any importer. You would not want to end up with the English Bulldog puppy the importer was just reselling for the money.
