My boyfriend and I had been getting enough trouble prior to our engagement that we knew we wouldn't marry if we didn't get some couples counseling. I know he hated the idea, but I felt it was essential, this resistance also strained our relationship.
It isn't uncommon for one party to be inclined to go for help and also the other to resist. The reason for this is really a simple one. My feeling is that an individual who believes within the Bible is going to be an excellent help in your relationship because there is a higher understanding in them about God's word on relationships staying in tact and not divorcing or dividing. If they are following the word of God, they will be inclined to work with you towards the enth degree to bring beauty from the ashes.
You might think, because you aren't Christian which you can't go for Christian couples counseling, but you would be mistaken. If you just don't wish to visit one, then point about why you think that way and if you nevertheless really feel compelled to not get church counsel then please go somewhere. The phone book is complete of certified people who desire to help you. Trust me, you'll be happy in the long run if you just jump right in and look for help today.
