Rhinos Set To Stay In Chester Until September 12th.

The city of Chester is currently infiltrated by Rhino Mania an art exhibition event designed to raise awareness of the plight of wild animals. The rhinos have been in place since the 5th of July and are set to stay until the 16th September. There are now 62 different rhinos in place around the city.
Chester Renaissance is working closely with Wild in Art to put on the event and several local companies are said to be sponsoring the ten weeklong event.
The event will celebrate the status of Chester and its cultural identity and importance. It is hoped that it will highlight the city as an important destination for tourists. There are also plans for around 120 mini rhinos to be placed around the city by local school children who are getting involved.
Rhinos are known to be amongst the most endangered species on earth and Chester is lucky enough to be the permanent home of nine Black Rhinos at the zoo. The Rhino Mania event is hoping to support many other Rhinos by donating to the Black Rhino Field Conservation project which the zoo currently helps manage.
Each of the rhinos will be dotted throughout the city and more will be placed at various locations such as Outlet Village in Cheshire Oaks. There is also a rhino at Euston Station in London and Liverpool Lime Street Station.
Fibreglass is the materials that each of the rhinos are made out of before they are painted in the designs created by the artists involved in the project. They are each painted with a protective coating so they are not damaged by the unpredictable weather. The rhinos each weigh in at 60kg and are 5 feet tall and 6 feet long. Amateur and professional artists from in and around Chester designed them.
When the rhinos are collected up on the 12th of September they will be taken to auction. 75% of the money made from the sale will then be donated to the Black Rhino Field Conservation and local charity the hospice of the Good Shepherd. The rest of the money will hopefully cover the cost of the event.
