6 Top Tactics for Mending a Broken Heart
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
A few years ago a girl dumped me after a four-month relationship. Even though we hadn't been together for very long I was devastated.
For weeks I couldn't sleep. I just couldn't get her off my mind and kept obsessing about how I had blown my best chance at happiness. Only after a year did I feel like dating again.
From my experience I can share with you 6 tactics to help you recover from your broken heart more quickly:
1. Don't blame yourself - You might have some doubts about the way you handled certain things in your past relationship. However don't keep cursing yourself about your failure. We all try to do our level best in any possible situation.
You shouldn't assume that you will never be loved by anyone again just because your previous relationship failed. Nor are you a loser. You have to realize that you can't be loved by everyone... but you will definitely be loved by someone.
2. Take a time out from dating - Instead use this time to get over your unsuccessful relationship and to heal yourself.
3. Don't keep any proof - Remove all mementoes and keepsakes of your past relationship from your home. Perhaps you're not ready to throw them out just yet. But it's better to keep such things out of sight. The more you see them, the more you'll be reminded of your heart-shattering break-up.
4. Reconnect with your friends - Take this opportunity to spend some time with your friends who you may have been neglecting.
5. Get if off your chest - Rather than bottle things up, you'll heal much quicker if you let go of all the grief, disappointment and anger you have over the failed relationship.
Take the support of your family and close friends by sharing your feelings with them. Try to release whatever emotions are within you - sob, scream or howl. You can write a letter to your ex-partner expressing your hurt and regret. But only send it once your feelings have settled.
6. Keep physically active - There's nothing like a bit of exercise to keep depression at bay.
